Push notifications serve as a vital tool for mobile marketers to engage and communicate with their audience. However, issues arise when users opt out or certain devices hinder the delivery of these notifications. To tackle this, CleverTap offers a unique feature: push amplification.
What is push amplification?
It's a feature in CleverTap designed to improve the delivery of push notifications to devices that initially failed to receive them.
When activated, the system performs two actions:
- It retries your push campaigns as they are (if the device is suppressing your notification).
- It retries your push using App Inbox (if the user has activated “Do Not Disturb” for push notifications). App Inbox, a unique feature in CleverTap, allows users to read notifications at their leisure in a persistent messaging system.
The ultimate result is that your push notifications reach a wider audience. You can even see the increase in your delivery numbers on your push campaign stats page.
How does push amplification boost delivery?
Some device manufacturers have implemented restrictions in their operating systems to limit or terminate background processes. On Android, this can prevent the device from receiving push notifications via the Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) or Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) service, as FCM needs to maintain an idle socket connection from the device to Google servers.
Push amplification overcomes this hurdle by retrying the send or using App Inbox as a backup method, ensuring the message is successfully delivered to the device. In this way, push amplification significantly enhances the delivery of push notifications.
