Australia's new legislation mandates that any platform operating in the country must prevent under-16 users from creating new accounts and begin disabling existing accounts held by minors. Major social media platforms — including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Reddit, X, Twitch, Threads, and YouTube (excluding YouTube Kids) — are subject to these requirements. Companies failing to take "reasonable steps" to remove underage users will face substantial penalties following a one-year transition period.
